  • It's probably me not using it properly (I'm not an iPerson).

Having turned on guided access, I am able to pinch the screen which allows me to open a new tab, getting away from the waiver page. Any suggestions?

    Pat.

  • Hello Pat,
You will need to deactivate the Multitasking Gestures within the iPad, this will disable the pinch action to return to the home screen. Please go to the iPad->Settings->General-> and Slide the Multitasking Gesture radio button to off. If you would like a screen shot of what I'm talking about please email me at: amy@rockgympro.com and I will send a screenshot.
    Thank you,
    Amy

  • Which app are you recommending for use with guided access?

  • There is no app for guided access. It is built into iOS and Safari.

You then pull up the RGP tablet URL within Safari/Guided Access.

    Hope this helps

  • In these instructions https://docs.google.com/a/sportrock.com/document/d/1scYGPYaomFFKOK-B-xGDQSLIuxteG1TZIpdGgTn7i64/edit

it only lists using Safari. However with using Safari, disabling the multi-gesture, and having my Ipads in an enclosure I can not easily get out of sleep. I can disable it but then the Ipads are just sitting on the same screen for 17 hours a day. In addition with using Guided access our staff will need to go through and start up all of the stations at the beginning of the day and turn them off at night. Not a major deal but I really liked having the automatic sleep option in Kiosk Pro.

Is there any app similar to Kiosk Pro that you would recommend?

  • I don't have any recommendations beyond Kiosk Pro or Guided Access. Sorry.

I imagine there are many many kiosk apps out there.. but obviously any app adds a layer of possible bugs, etc.

  • Striking out on Kiosk apps, MokiTouch 2 was almost perfect but doesn't allow for the customer to sign with their finger for whatever reason. We would like to be able to run a screensaver showing our current ads, which MokiTouch does, but sadly we can't use it due to the signing issue. Anyone else found a better Kiosk app? What were the reasons behind KioskPro no longer being recommended? What are all of you using?

  • Still hard to believe theres not the perfect app out there for this.

Guided Access is also quirky with older ipads - the upper grayed out area changes shape randomly allowing navigation away from the waiver or sometimes blocking the selecting of a customers birth month (particularly january).

  • Moki Touch 2 is now working just great for filling out waivers and allows for us to run ads on our iPads when they are not being used. We've been running them for several weeks with very few issues. I turned off auto-update on the app store to avoid it updating and breaking things as well.

  • Has anyone had trouble with guided access and ios 8? Some kids got into one of the ipads and updated it to ios8 among other things. Now even when guided access is on and multi gestures are off, you can pinch the screen and open a new page. Even though the new page is blank and you can't get to anything else, if you select the new page, you can't get back to the waiver page. Ios7 just stayed on the waiver page no matter what you did. Am I missing a setting in ios8 so it won't allow you to open another page? Thanks

  • As best I can work out, this is a feature of Safari that can't be turned off. :( Kind of defeats the purpose of guided access in my opinion.

The only solution I've come up with is to create a bookmark for the waiver page in favorites. This should give you a button on the blank new page that will take you to the waiver.

  • I was just told that if you use guided access with the Chrome Browser on the iPad... they can't use the pinch feature. I haven't personally tested this though...
