gift card expiry - email reminder
Hi There,
Could you let me know if it's possible when selling a gift card to set up an auto email that reminders the customer who have not used their card after a certain amount of time that the gift card will soon expire? (For us it's 1 year).
The main question is, can it be done automatically, or do we need to manage the expiry manually and remind customers by monitoring the balance, and sending out manual emails.

No built in email trigger for this. A custom SQL trigger could be created (typically a one-time fee of $250USD), though this one sounds a bit tricky :)
I might be wrong... but it looks like you can do this using the Custom Actions in the email system. If you click "customize" there an option for "Purchased product # of days ago". What if you put 350 (or however many days warning you want to give minus 365) in there and chose Gift Card as the product, then you wouldn't you be able to use that to send a warning email about a expiring gift card. It may not be able to include exact details of the gift card number and I am not sure if it would work with online sales but it is a start.

I don't think that would do what you want... it would show cards purchased 350 days ago... regardless of the balance.

Hi John,
We were running a custom query based on card purchase date and sending out emails 11 months after purchase. One thing to be aware of is that if someone uses the voucher but still has a balance remaining, they'll get the email 11 months (or whenever you set it) from the last use of the voucher.

Audrey - I communicated with Kerry @ Castle about this, and EVERY use of a gift card is technically a "purchase", hence using the product-purchased action will create lots of confusing emails to the customers...

It looks like we will park this one for a while as it seems the process can't be automated.
We think it would be a good addition to our customer service though, but it would require RGP to monitor the use of any voucher through the term of the voucher, recognise that the term is near the end and there is an unused balance, and then produce an email to that effect - all automatically.
Maybe something for the future...
I think through email it is not possible may be in future you get it this type of features in that latest mail who going to invent it..
