I tried to create a promo code but there is no place to enter it during the purchase online gift card transaction.

Seems like if you really wanted to run that promo sale you could do it, but you would have to edit each transaction sold that day manually to add the additional funds.

A bit of extra effort, but if you really wanted to run that kind of sale. Their auto-generated e-mail from the sale would send the unedited amount, but I guess you could also re send their confirmation e-mail once their card has received additional funds.

Online gift cards at this time are unable to run in a promotional way that you are describing. We are currently working on enhanced online retail features and this will likely be part of that system. You can expect more information on enhanced online retail features in 2018.
