how often to restart ipad waiver stations
Hopefully I can get some feedback form those that have been using ipads for a while now. We are fairly new to using them and waiver stations in general. Basically I am wondering how often gyms are restarting them. We have had several times now that customers fill out the waiver and hit send and it just hangs. We have to restart the ipads and get them customers to fill out the waiver again. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, have they found a solution? Also, could we just not be restarting often enough?
Thanks for the feedback in advance.

Hangs are typically related to issues with your wifi. I'm not aware of gyms needing to restart their iPads very often. Others may chime
In though....
Thanks Andy,
I'll see if anyone else chimes in. It seems to happen when they have been asleep for a long time, so not sure if that has anything to do with it. It may be in the settings some where. The wifi indicator is on with full bars though, so I would think they are connected or at least would be by the time the customer finishes filling out the waiver.

Our iPad's can freeze up a bit too. Our wifi router is a bit far away from the iPads so moving closer cleared it up pretty well.
Thanks Chance. I updated to the latest IOS (Ipad air 2, is what I think I have). Seems to have sorted it
Two of our Ipad's are VERY slow scrolling. The third one is perfect. Once we clear the history and data for the Safari history, it's fine...for a few hours. This is what Apple told us to do, but it never lasts long. There has to be something wrong with the URL, because it doesn't happen on other websites, only our RGP Ipad URL. Has anyone heard/seen this? I replaced the WiFi we were using, but that was not the issue.
Hi Aaron,
Sorry the iPads are giving you fits. There is nothing wrong with the website/URL though... if it was it would be slow on all the iPads (your third one wouldn't be fast) and clearing the Safari history wouldn't fix the problem - even temporarily. This is, unfortunately, and Apple issue I'm sure.
Are these older iPads running a recent OS - if so that is always a recipe for slow iPads.
Have you done a factory reset on them? That is deleting everything and starting over. You can do that in settings.

Well, today the third one was a little sluggish. It wasn't like the other two, but it was under performing. The Ipad's are 12 months old, so relatively new. They are up to date with all software.
I am resetting them now and will see what happens, but if you have any other suggestions, please let me know! All I know is that every time they are running slow, going to a different website is night and day difference. Makes no sense!
Going to a website may speed things up, but that can be the result of Safari caching lots of information regarding the RGP waiver form (which might be why clearing the safari settings helps).
Do you know of any other settings in the Ipad that would clear the cache automatically?
I don't. But did you do a factory reset? And the results?
We did that at the Apple store. I forgot that we had done it. Still an issue and after only a couple hours, it slows down. Scrolling and typing are delayed.
Sorry that didn't help. The RGP waiver is just a normal website, and obviously we have no control over Safari's performance with scrolling and typing - that's all in Safari.
Have you tried downloading and running the waiver in Chrome for the iPad as a test of another browser? You can download Google Chrome for the iPad for free.
And, has this always been the case, or just recently? Nothing has changed with our waiver form in a long time. Are you using Guided Access, have you tried turning it off? Did it only happen after an iOS update?
Okay, so here are the answers...Amy suggested Chrome, so I have downloaded that. Only one problem, you can swipe right, even in guided access and get a new webpage. Do you know of a work around? This started about 6-8 months after we got the Ipad's. Maybe I installed an update, I just don't know. I'll keep you updated on the use of Chrome, but I wish they couldn't open a new page...
We had real sluggish browser problems, but in the end we bought the Kiosk Pro app from the app store and are using that + Guided Access, closing the app each night allowing the ipads to go to sleep (but not turning the ipads off completely as this would involve taking them out of their enclosures). Has been going well for a couple of months now. Kiosk pro allows you to configure all sorts of things, limit access to other sites, automatically restart after an idle period, seems pretty good. Downside: costs money (but not loads).
Hi all,
iOS9 definitely seems to slow down as it is intensively used throughout the day with waiver stations. Unfortunately this is a bug/resource leak with Safari and iOS9 and is outside the control of RGP. As suggested above, its best to powerdown your iPads at night so that they start fresh the next morning. Hopefully Apple corrects this is a future minor update.
