Slowness/Hanging with Check in on Windows 7 PC

So we have a Win7 computer connecting to the server, latest RGP as of 2/11/2014. Any time we run RGP Check in, or POS on the client machine it takes forever to load. When it finally does load, clicking in the search field makes the RGP program stop responding for a while. If I'm lucky I can get the search window to come up and actually do a search. The performance seems normal until the exact moment you click the search field then everything just stops.

I've checked the DNS issue mentioned in the forum here and applied the fix but still have the same issue. No AV or anything running on the client currently. Any ideas?

  • This sounds like the SQL statements being sent to the server are taking excessively long, which is why search is so slow since it requires many SQL statements.

I presume this server is located on the same network/premises as the computer, right? RGP does *not* work with remote MySQL servers because the latency is too slow.

If it is on the same network/LAN, then I would suggest running some ping tests to see the latency to the server. is.

  • Hi Andy,

Thanks for the reply. Ping tests are good on the network, no latency above 10ms. Both PC's are on the same switch, same subnet. Even share access between the two PC's is fine. I've checked firewalls (local) on each machine and those are off, even turned off AV, rebooted, etc. What's interesting is if I pull up data entry, and search that way it's fine, no slowness or anything. As soon as I try searching in the Check In program is where the slowness occurs.

  • Check-In, Data Entry, and POS are actually all the same program. All the icons do is launch the *same* program with a different command line switch. Thus it is baffling why "check-in" would be slow since it is the running the same program.

Is there anything else curious about your installation that you might not have shared? i.e. running the program off the network, etc.

    Some additional questions:

When you say "clicking the search field" in POS or Check-In, what do you mean?
How does the program respond on the server?
Do you have other computers on the network behaving normally?

  • Hello, Amy here with RGP support. Are you on RGP support? If so, I can login and take a look at your situation with your computer and RGP.
    Thank you,
    Amy
