Error HY000
When attempting to connect to my server database upon configuration on another machine, I get an error saying that I am not allowed to connect. I have created a 3306 port exception, but it still doesn't work.
Perhaps I am incorrectly adding the exception? Or is this another problem...
Thanks!

This is an unfortunate ODBC driver error/windows configuration problem.
Here is one possible cause/fix.... but I'm not sure it will solve. You can also search on the error message in Google for other ideas.

There was another report of this (search this forum) and he never did get that computer to work I believe.
Sorry I don't have more specifics, but this is a MySQL ODBC driver bug/issue :(
Specifically what is the entire error message?
Wow...Is there any other solutions? This is a bit above my head as far as editing binary...
I changed my post - what is the EXACT error message?
ERROR [HY000] [MySQL] [ODBC 5.1 Driver} Host 'Boulders-FD2' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server.
It repeats that twice.
Did someone else install your MySQL server and possibly put access restrictions into it? You really just want to use the basic MySQL out-of-the-box.
I installed the basic on our machine under the administrative side. Nothing Special, just followed the instructions.
Do you have RGP working from the server, no problems?
Yes. I just cannot get onto the database from my second computer. It's almost as though the network isn't working. We have to machines, hooked up to a Ethernet splitter connected to a wireless router and modem. I can see both machines under the network.
Have you tried installing RGP on another machine - this will rule in/out your network?
Trying that now. I can't connect to either machine just using windows networking either. It keeps giving me a login dialog and I must be punching in the incorrect username and pw.
And upon trying it with a different machine, I get the same error code.
It sounds like you have an internal networking setup issue since it happened from both machines.
I can login remotely to investigate and help you get RGP setup, but that requires the support agreement. Of course, if your network is totally out-of-whack I can't really fix that remotely and you'll need to find a local networking person... but I can troubleshoot the RGP/MySQL end of it.

I am almost positive it is an internal network issue. The last guy who tried to network our machines really screwed the pooch and didn't know what he was doing.
I will try to re-network and see if that helps. Pray for me...
Thanks for the help.
Jeremy
OK. So, I reconfigured some things and have a working network. MY two machines are hooked up to a switch, which connects to the gateway and thus internet. However, now I get the same error but on the end it says "Cannot connect"
Arg!
Success! The issue was I didn't "manually configure" the MySQL server. There was also one network error I fixed as far as connections go.
Thanks again for the input, Andy! :)
Hmmm, how were you using RGP on the server without configuring MySQL? That's why I asked the question about if RGP was working on the server?
Glad you figured it out!
Cheers
Andy
