Stripe payments being declined (UK)

Hi all, we've had a few Stripe online payments declined for our UK customers due to the bank flagging up the payments as "suspicious" as they were somehow registered to the US (San Francisco, I think). It all gets cleared up with a call to the bank, but clearly inconvenient for the customer. Any other UK users had a similar experience? Stripe tell me that all payments should go through their UK entity so they're not sure why this is happening.

  • Sounds like bugs on Stripe's side. I am simply using Stripe's API... and unfortunately I have no control of what happens on their end. This is the first I've heard about this problem, but I'll report back if others have the issue.

  • Be persistent with Stripe... multiple times I've heard of facilities having issues that turned out to be misconfiguration on Stripe's side. Nothing specific to the UK... but definitely problems with Stripe's setup of the accounts. And Stripe was dismissing the problems until the customer was persistent.

  • I've used Stripe on another ecomm site, and we did have a few problems like this. Just make sure all your security settings are right, as there are a few settings you can adjust depending on how 'secure' you would like the transaction to be...

You can choose whether you want it to fail for CVC and/or postcode verification.

I found it was always a postcode issue / formatting / incorrect entry that was causing declines. Whether or not you want to turn off postcode checking is obviously up to you...
