Cannot start Config utility.

I am unable to start the Config utility. I'm using Win7 and when I try to start it turns on the compatibility mode, but declines to start the app. Data Entry and others start OK. Background is that our old machine died and I have just installed on a new machine. I created a blank database during my install, but I want to create a new blank database with a specific encryption key. This is why I'm trying to start Config. Any ideas ??

  • RGP works fine with Windows 7, so it isn't a general problem.

    Have you tried NOT using compatibility mode?

  • The compatibility mode is starting itself because Win seems to be having some problem. It is not my choice. This is the only symptom I see. Does RGP log any errors to a file?

  • It is not starting the app, so there is nothing for me to log.

    I'm not sure how, but you can control if Windows decides to use compatibility mode or not for a particular app.

  • OK, we're taking another stab at this. Executive decision has been made to abandon the old database and start a new one with 2013. So we have the blank database installed with an encryption key- is there a way to confirm this encryption key so that as we make backups we can be reasonably confident that we will be able to restore if the need arises?
