Barcode format
Hi Andy,
My question relates to a new set up of RGP.
I have just received a batch of barcode 39 cards, and when I scan a card to assign to a customer, the below error pops up:
“Barcode must start with a non-alphabetic character or be the data from a magnetic strip”
Unfortunately, all the cards I ordered start with alphabetic characters before the numbers... :-(
Therefore, my question is - Is there a way to get RGP to accept the barcode as is, or will I need to order a new batch without these characters?
(Hint: the former option may be preferable... :-) )
Many thanks,
Nitzan.

Yes, there is setting in the next update to RGP to allow leading alpha characters. What is the name of your facility?
Ceroc Canberra.
Andy,
Can you please indicate when will the next update be released and what is required to get the update? (i.e. a new download of the whole program, or a patch that's applied to the existing installated version)
With thanks,
Nitzan.
Sometime in the next 2-4 weeks and you will be notified within the software.
hi there
i suggest u use barcode 2 sql application.
it is free to download and easy to use.
u can find it at app store and barcode2sql.com
hope it will be helpful ;)
that is not reasonable. Why code 39 should start with non-alphabetic character? Your barcode reader should be compatible with the industry standards, isn't it? So maybe you should try some other barcode reader.

The reason numeric barcodes are recommended is because the same input box is used for customer lookup via name or barcode. If you limit yourself to numeric barcodes, then if the software sees a letter it can immediately start returning matching customers without the staff having to press an additional button... i.e. the presence of a letter means LOOKUP BY NAME.
That being said, there is an option in the software to allow letters in barcodes, but it will then require the staff to actually press a button if they want to lookup by customer name.
