Multiday courses with RGP

We've had recent requests on the "best practices" when creating multiday events such as summer camps.

RGP absolutely supports multiday events. You create these by adding sessions to either a specific recurring time slot OR sessions to a fixed event. Right mouse click on a time slot within a rule OR a fixed event to add sessions.

Here is a link to a video on creating multiday events:

RGP does not have support for "ala carte" day selection... meaning a customer can't pick and choose which dates of a multiday session they want to attend. I have no plans to add support for this as it would introduce tremendous complexity to the system.

Some options of simulating ala carte day selection (using a 5 day camp that customers can pick-and-choose days as an example)

OPTION A: You could have five different dates for your offering and your customers just create a booking for the days they want. RGP will remember all the form values (their name, etc.) between bookings so it won't take long for them to book multiple days.

OPTION B: Some gyms have simulated ala carte day selection by creating an event that starts on one day, and not adding sessions to it. And then using custom questions to have customers select which days they want (modifying the pricing accordingly with the custom question). It's a little tricky, but it can be done.

Now - an important question to ask... is there a compelling business reason to allow ala carte day selection? One gym decided to do away with the ala carte selection and ended up making MORE money with less headache. Do parents really want to pick and choose the days? Would they rather just book the whole week and then drop in on the days they want? Perhaps price the 5 day camp a little lower to account for this. You'll end up making more money and have far less headaches is my prediction.

Remember the golden rule - keep it simple!

  • Our solution was to have a separate offering with a limited number of spots for those people that absolutely can only do single days in our week long camps.
