Default Staff Job Type

For convenience only, it would be nice to set a default staff job type for each employee. Then, upon entering their PIN to clock in, the Job Type field would automatically change to that default.

I see RGP already functions this way for clocking out. Would like to have the same for clock in.

  • Defaults in these types of situations are not desirable. If there is a default, many times your staff will forget to change it and thus bias the data towards the default.

    The clock-out default is what they clocked IN as.... so it isn't a "default" in that sense of the word.

  • I see your point. However, there is already (essentially) a default job type, the first in the list of all staff job types. If our aim is to reduce staff errors, setting a preferred default for employees may better accomplish this.

    For example, take a Job Type list comprised of the following:

    > Safety Staff
    > Supervisor
    > Routesetter

    An employee who closes 2 nights a week has a job type of 'Supervisor' for those shifts. This employee is also a routesetter 5 days a week. But, when this employee goes to clock in, and forgets to change their job type as you mentioned, the software defaults to NEITHER of their associated staff responsibilities.

    The most accurate option, I think, would be to leave the job type blank, and require the employee to make a job type selection before being allowed to clock in. Setting a default though, may help streamline the clock in process AND reduce the number of staff errors.
