Prorated membership

We are going to start offering memberships which will always start on the 1st of the month. This means, we need to prorate members on their first month. The prorate function in POS works great however there is one limitation: it only calculates the prorated cost based on the day the customer comes in.
Is there a way to select the date it prorates from? I know we can select the date it will prorate to; which is always the 1st for us. Which works well.
The main situation we are trying to address is having a member on a "term membership" transfer to our "monthly membership". The first can start anytime. So if they are transferring from a 3 month term to a monthly plan, they need to be prorated. But it is unlikely they will come exactly on the day of the expiry to update the transfer. They will come a few days prior or later.
Of course, we can always manually calculate the prorate, but we were hoping there may be a way of taking advantage of RGP functionality.

Don't really have any advice except to perhaps make a quick reference chart that the staff can refer to with the amounts.
:) That was suggested by one of the other staff members...
It was worth a try to ask.
