I presume by scanning you mean with a barcode reader?
Open up Notepad (the application) in Windows and scan a card into Notepad. Do the #'s appear? If not, but you DO get a "beep" from your scanner then you need to configure your scanner to be keyboard emulating rather than serial. You'll need to consult the documentation for the scanner.
If this doesn't describe the situation, then please describe EXACTLY what happens when you scan a card into Notepad? You should get a beep from the scanner, the card #s, and then a NEWLINE sent to Notepad.
Hi Andy,
The numbers appeared in the top left hand corner of Notepad and the scanner beeped.
So what happens is when a member comes in I scan the card and the scanner beeps but nothing happens so I enter the bar code and their details come up but this only happens when I put the number in manually.
Did an ENTER also get sent by the barcode reader? i.e. a newline after the number?
And for the member to be checked in, the Check-In application has to be open, in the foreground, and the cursor in the barcode/name box. IF the check-in application is open, when you scan the card the numbers are sent as if the keys were pressed on the keyboard and sent to the text box in the top, left.
But again, the check-in app must be open and in the foreground.
Haha, of course!! Yes, that works thanks Andy (what a rooky I am...)
