Credit Card Surcharge Settings

Rock Gym Pro's Credit Card surcharge functionality is available to customers using our Stripe Custom payment integration who are located in the United States, Canada, and Australia. This tool allows facilities to automatically add a surcharge to billed membership dues and freeze fees for EFT memberships that are configured to be paid with a stored credit card. Laws surrounding credit card surcharges vary by region, so check your location's laws before implementing a credit card surcharge in your RGP Database.

The settings for RGP's Credit Card Surcharge tool can be found in RGP Data Entry - Manage - Settings - Payment and Billing - Credit Card Surcharge Percent.

These settings allow you to specify your desired credit card surcharge as a percent of monthly dues / freeze fees. The amount of the surcharge will be calculated and applied to eligible customers when invoices are generated as a part of the monthly billing process. The surcharge will appear on these invoices as a separate line item using the "Credit Surcharge" product, which is automatically installed in every RGP database.

Please note:

Credit card surcharges are only applied to the Monthly Dues product and the configured Freeze Fee product, and are only applied when monthly EFT Billing is run.

Credit card surcharges are not added to online purchases, including EFT memberships.

Credit card surcharges are not added to dues products or freeze fee products that are sold at Point of Sale.

Credit card surcharges are not added to Add-On products that are sold via Billing.

Credit card surcharges are not added to customers configured to pay with a stored debit card, even if that debit card is co-branded by a credit card issuer like VISA or Mastercard.

Credit card surcharges are not added to on-account sales added to a customer's account at the POS.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why are surcharges itemized on customer invoices?
To help customers comply with local laws requiring itemized credit card surcharges, all surcharges are itemized on invoices.
  • Why are surcharges limited to credit cards only?
Due to laws in many countries that prohibit surcharges on debit cards, surcharges are only applied to credit card transactions, ensuring compliance for our customers.

VISA limits credit card surcharges to 3%, with penalties for exceeding this rate. To ensure uninterrupted VISA processing, we cap surcharges at 3% for all RGP users in these regions.
