This article provides a step-by-step guide on how to enable remote connections on the RGP (Rock Gym Pro) Server computer.
On the locally hosted version of RGP, customers have one computer that is designated as their “RGP Server” computer. On this computer, the RGP software and the underlying MySQL database are installed. Facilities can connect additional computers, referred to as workstations, to the server computer through their LAN (Local Area Network). The following process is an essential preliminary step for connecting a workstation computer to the RGP Server.
Note: The process of enabling remote connections on the RGP Server computer typically only needs to be completed once. For most users, after the initial setup, the RGP Server will continue to allow remote connections to any additional workstations without requiring further configuration. If you are adding an additional workstation to an already configured server that already has other workstation computer(s) connected, you can skip this setup process and proceed directly to connecting the workstation.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure you have the following:
-
MySQL Root Password:
- This was created by the facility during the initial installation of RGP.
- If you are unsure of the password, please have a tech contact email RGP Support at support@rockgympro.com for assistance.
-
Network Settings Established:
- The RGP Server computer and any other computer that needs to connect to it must all be on the same network with the appropriate settings enabled to make their computers visible to other computers on their network, allowing printer and file sharing as is necessary for RGP to operate. If you are unsure how to set up a network at your facility, please contact an IT professional.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Launch the MySQL Server Instance Config Wizard
- On the RGP Server computer, locate and launch the MySQL Server Instance Config Wizard program.
Step 2: Configure TCP/IP Networking
- Choose all the default options and click Next to progress through the configuration.
-
When you reach the Enable TCP/IP Networking page:
-
Ensure the box for enabling TCP/IP Networking is checked (it should be by default).
- Confirm that the Port Number is set to 3306 (this is the default).
- Check the box for Add firewall exception for this port.
-
Leave all other settings as they are and click Next.
-
Step 3: Modify Security Settings
- On the Modify Security Settings page:
- Enter your MySQL Root Password in the Current Root Password, New Root Password, and Confirm boxes.
- Check the box for Enable root access from remote machines.
-
Leave all other settings unchanged and click Next.
Step 4: Execute Configuration
-
On the Ready to execute page, click the Execute button.
- This process may take some time as it prepares the configuration, writes the configuration file, starts the MySQL Service, and applies security settings.
- Once completed, you will see a message stating: “Configuration file created. Service restarted successfully. Security settings applied. Press [Finish] to close the Wizard.”
- Click Finish to complete the process.
Troubleshooting
-
If you encounter an error and cannot finish the configuration:
- Verify that you have entered the correct password.
- Check if other programs or firewalls on your server may be blocking traffic.
- If you cannot resolve the issue, send a screenshot of the error message to RGP Support at support@rockgympro.com along with the troubleshooting steps you have already taken.

Next Steps
Once you have completed these steps, the RGP Server computer will be configured to allow remote connections. You can read more about how to connect other computers to your RGP Server here: Connecting Additional Workstations to a Locally Hosted RGP Server
